Pampering. There are several ways to pamper your poochie. I will cover several of those on this blog, but for today, we are going to focus on treats. You can always buy treats for your dog, but isn’t it fun to make them? If you decide to make them, they don’t have to be anything very hard. You don’t even have to cook anything if you don’t want to.
One super simple idea is to freeze some chicken broth in an ice cube try. You dog will love this when they’re hot.
Another simple recipe requires only three ingredients: 2 apples, 1 cup greek non-fat plain yogurt, and a splash of water. Blend these up (remember to remove the apple seeds as they are poisonous), pour them in an ice cube tray and freeze until hard.
If you want to cook something, I love to mix 2 cups whole wheat flour with 4 oz of pureed baby food. Mix this together until it forms a stiff dough. After that, you can roll the dough out on a slightly floured surface until the dough is about 1/4 inch thick. You can use cookie cutters to create shapes or just cut them into strips with a pizza cutter. In some recipes, you can mold the dough, no matter the shape, your dog will love it. Space these treats out on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper about 1/2 inch apart. Bake them at 350* for 20-25 minutes. Once they are done cooking, allow them to cool. Note that if you store them in an airtight bag, the treats will wind up softer…but still completely edible.
